Four Signs You Need a New Well Pump
A Reduction in Water Pressure: If your home’s running water has a noticeable decrease in pressure, this can be a sign the pump is starting to fail as it is unable to effectively pull water into your home from the well. It may be time for a well inspection! This could also be a sign you need a stronger pump. If you have recently added more faucets or a new bathroom that could be the cause.
No Water
If your well isn’t pumping at all that is a sign of an underlying issue. This sign is hard to miss as it results in faucets not running and no water when you try to flush a toilet. If the cause isn’t another common problem such as drought, a busted pipe, or an electrical short, then the pump may need replacing.
The Water is Dirty
Odd odors or a metallic taste is a sign of minerals in your well water. Minerals in well water are generally harmless and a product of the natural environment however, the water itself should still be clear and clean. If your water has dirt, sediments, or sand mixed with it, this is a sign you need repairs or a pump replacement, and you should reach out for professional repairs as soon as possible.
Constant Running
If your pump never shuts off, that is a sign of mechanical issues or that the pump itself needs replacing due to damage or age. The causes of this constant running can be problems with the line, a bad pressure control switch, leaks, or your pump getting old, as the typical lifespan of a well pump ranges between 15 and 25 years.
